1 Day Augrabies Falls National Park Tour & 3 Days Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park

3 Days / 2 Nights

Safari – Day 1

Departure from Upington, at 8H30 from your guesthouse, visit a local wine cellar for a short tour and wine tasting. Visit a dried fruit stall to sample the local products. Arrive at Augrabies Falls National Park in time for lunch at the restaurant. (Not included) Few sights are as awesome or a sound as deafening as water thundering down the 56-meter waterfall when the Orange River is in full flood.
The Bushmen called it ‘Akoerebis’, or place of the Great Noise, as the powerful flow of water is unleashed from rocky surroundings characterized by the 18 km abyss of the Orange River Gorge. Enjoy a fascinating game drive in the national park, which provides a sanctuary to diversity of species, from the very smallest succulents, birds and reptiles to Springbok, Gemsbok and the various viewpoints along the ravine. Optional night game drive in a ranger’s truck – 2 hours.

Overnight: Augrabies – Chalets.
Meals: Dinner.

Safari – Day 2

The day’s adventure begins after an early breakfast with a scenic drive north into the Kalahari. Continue north into the vast Kalahari to the renowned Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, one of Africa’s largest and virtually untouched conservation areas, with no fences between South Africa and Botswana within the Park to facilitate natural migration of animals.
Kgalagadi is a Setswana word meaning ‘thirsty’ land. On arrival at Twee Rivieren, we settle into our accommodation, then depart on a game drive, according to game reports. Stalk-driving until it’s time for a night game drive in an open truck with game rangers – 3 hours – (not included) to see the nocturnal wildlife. Dinner under the stars after night drive.

Overnight: Twee Rivieren – Chalets.
Meals: Breakfast & Light Lunch & Dinner.

Safari – Day 3

Continue north on a journey of discovery along the ancient dry Auob river water course. Marvel at the sunset on arrival at the Kalahari Wilderness camp, which is an open perimeter camp as close to nature as possible.
The camp showcases unforgettable scenery in a prime predator habitat. Settle in and enjoy sundowners overlooking the resident waterhole.
As night falls, nowhere in Africa do the stars in the Milky Way and Southern Cross appear brighter and more beautiful than in the Kalahari, hence a traditional African ‘braai’ dinner compliments the day.

Overnight: Kalahari Wilderness Camp.
Meals: Breakfast & Light Lunch & Dinner.

Safari – Day 4

Early morning game drive after breakfast to follow the nocturnal animal’s spoor. Depart along the pristine dune savanna and along the Nossob River. Due to sparse vegetation and concentration of animals in the Auob- and Nossob Rivereds, Kgalagadi offers premium game viewing. It is especially renowned for the seasonal movement of large herbivores such as blue wildebeest, gemsbok, springbok, and red hartebeest. Suricate, Honey badger, Pangolin and Bat-eared Fox, leopard, brown- and spotted hyena and the definitive Black maned Kalahari Lion awesome of the Park’s specials to search for.
In the heat of the day, we stop for a picnic lunch at an unfenced spot. The remainder of the day is spent searching for the various predators that are the Park’s biggest attraction. Depart from Twee Rivieren at about 12h00 to Upington. Photographic stop at the Khoi San Bushmen roadside stalls where handmade artifacts may be purchased.
A note to guests visiting the San is that they may charge a nominal fee for photos taken of them. Arrive in Upington for drop off at your accommodation for the night or Upington airport or bus.
