Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park / Augrabies Falls National Park / Witsand Nature Reserve / Mokala National Park.

DETAILED PROGRAM
DAY 1

Upington – Kgalagadi Trans Frontier Park – Rooiputs unfenced camping 260+30km.

Drive 260km to Twee Rivieren, check in and game drive in this 38000km Park until we reach Rooiputs. Rooiputs has basic facilities (no shower) and is unfenced. We can hike short distances to view animal tracks.
Kgalagadi is famous for spotting lion, leopard, cheetah and spotted – and brown hyena. Smaller Animals like mice, whistling rats, birds, and insects, as well as smaller predators are common in the park. Expect to see caracal, honey badger, black-backed jackal, bat-eared fox, cape fox, African wildcat, mongoose, and meerkat.
More than 265 Bird species are recorded including 20 larger raptor species. The world’s heaviest flying bird, the Kori bustard and secretary bird are common.

Overnight: Rooiputs camping.

DAY 2

Kgalagadi Trans Frontier Park – Nossob 130km.
We game drive 160km until our next camp. Electricity shuts off at 10 and restarts at 5h00. Optional night drive with rangers. Nossob has a game hide where we can watch the animals coming to drink. A short botanical route can be walked in half an hour to see some interesting plant- and tree species. Nossob has full bathroom facilities and swimming pool.

DAY 3

Kgalagadi-Matopi unfenced camp 110km.
Game drive through high red sand dunes, with Acacia stretches interlinked with Eragrostes grass species. Large herds of Eland can be seen. This camp has only a long drop toilet and no other facilities.

Overnight: Matopi Camping.
Meals: Breakfast & Light Lunch & Dinner.

DAY 4 and 5

Mabuasehube unfenced camp 90km.
Early game drive to this unfenced camp. Water for showers is available. We spend our time doing several game drives in this area.

Meals: Breakfast & Light Lunch & Dinner.

DAY 6

Mosomane 50km – unfenced camp.
We drive over very high dunes through the Kalahari savanna. A huge male Leopard is part of the territory at Mosomane and can sometimes visit the camp.

DAY 7

Nossob 110km

Overnight: Nossob Camping.
Meals: Breakfast & Light Lunch & Dinner.

DAY 8

Mata Mata 150km.
We drive South until Dikbaardskolk, then cross over the dunes into the Auob riverbed then North again towards our camp for tonight. Giraffes are common in this area. Mata Mata has a swimming pool, and full facilities.

Overnight: Mata Mata Camping.
Meals: Breakfast & Light Lunch & Dinner.

DAY 9

Kalahari Trails Nature Reserve 120km+30km.
Game drive 120km until Twee Rivieren, then 30km to Kalahari Trails. Here you can do an optional sunset drive, star gazing with a telescope, morning walk at Kalahari Trails.

Overnight: Kalahari Trails.
Meals: Breakfast & Light Lunch & Dinner.

DAY 10

Kalahari Trails – Augrabies Falls National Park 230+120km.
Early drive to Augrabies Falls National Park 240km + 120km We visit Bezalel Wine farm, then at Augrabies Falls National Park we visit the Falls, and viewpoints like ARRARAT, MOONROCK, ECHO CORNER, BLACK MOUNTAINS. Optional night drive / half day river rafting (mild) Augrabies has full facilities.

Overnight: Augrabies Falls National Park.

DAY 11

Augrabies Falls National Park – Witsand Nature Reserve 160km.
Early morning hike on the Dassie Nature trail. We then drive to Upington and Groblershoop. Witsand Nature Reserve offers you soft flowing white dunes – 80 metres high, surrounded by red Kalahari sand, Acacia woodland and the Langeberg Mountain Range.
Witsand Nature Reserve is famous for its Roaring Sands of the Kalahari. Under the right moisture conditions, these dunes utter a roaring sound when disturbed. Witsand Nature Reserve has more than 150 bird species –including the Namaqua sandgrouse, sociable weaver, and Africa’s smallest raptor the pygmy falcon. It also has a bird hide overlooking a water hole. Gemsbok, springbok, red hartebeest, common duiker, and steenbok can be seen.
When its cooler we do the short botanical route / game drives. Witsand Nature Reserve has full facilities.

DAY 12

Witsand Nature Reserve – Mokala National Park 200km.
We drive through Griekwastad and Douglas to Mokala National Park which is South Africa’s newest park and is 80 km south of Kimberley in the Northern Cape.
Mokala National Park is home to black- and white rhino, Cape buffalo, roan antelope, sable antelope, tsesebe, black and blue wildebeest, giraffe, eland, kudu, gemsbok, red hartebeest, Burchell’s zebra, waterbuck, and mountain reedbuck. Optional night drive / Bush braai / Vulture drive with rangers.

Overnight: Mokala National Park .
Meals: Breakfast & Light Lunch & Dinner.

DAY 13

Mokala National Park
We do several game drives in this park.

Meals: Breakfast & Light Lunch & Dinner.

DAY 14

Mokala National Park – Kimberley.
Depart to Kimberley. We visit the Anglo Boer war site, The Big Hole, and the Mine Museum. We also visit Kamfer’s Dam where greater flamingos and the largest population of lesser flamingos in Southern Africa, numbering about 30 000 can be seen. Drop off at the airport/ guesthouse. End of tour.

GUESTS NEED:

  • Binoculars, sun block, hat, closed shoes for the evenings, insect repellent, torch, and toiletries.
  • IMPORTANT: Animals are active early morning and late afternoon when temperatures are lower.
  • Please keep luggage to a minimum (towels, linen and cutlery are supplied).
